President of the Hickory Humanist Alliance (2016)
William is a ninth-generation resident of the Catawba Valley whose ancestors "settled" in the area in the mid-Eighteenth Century. Raised in the United Church of Christ, he has been a secular humanist for over a quarter of a century and active in the local secular community since 2012. After attending the first Reason Rally, William founded a local "Metrolina" chapter of Recovering From Religion in June of 2012. He is also the Legislative Chair of the Secular Coalition of North Carolina, a founding member (March 2013) and current president (July 2016) of the Hickory Humanist Alliance (HHA), and a founding member of the Charlotte Coalition of Reason (March 2013). William represents HHA as a member of the Foothills Interfaith Assembly (2015) and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Catawba Valley Interfaith Council (2016). William has a degree in mathematics from UNC Charlotte and recently retired from a 24 year career in software engineering and support for a Fortune 100 company. William is currently available for freelance writing and knowledge management or agile/lean consulting. William blogs at the Skeptical Poets Society and Medium and is exploring the idea of writing a book on skepticism and a book about his family's history in the Catawba Valley.
