What Do We Do at HHA?
We are dedicated to serving the needs of our members and the community. The mission of the HHA is to be a clear, democratic voice for Humanism in the United States; to increase public awareness and acceptance of Humanism; to establish, protect and promote the position of Humanists in our society; and to develop and advance Humanist thought and action.
Building Community and Friendships
Through our Meetup Site you can find our get togethers, where freethinkers can come and enjoy the company of the like-minded.
We host regular meetings open to the public, as well as smaller groups.
We try to always have a presence at local festivals and other events to let others know that there is a strong secular Atheist and Humanist community out there that wants them to be a part of.
Helping Local Causes and National Initiatives
A hugely important part of what we do is supporting local, national and global initiatives to make THIS life and THIS world better for all.
A key charity we have dedicated our time to is 'Judy's Kids'. Many atheists, agnostics, secular humanists and non religious people have a carefully thought out personal moral code that stresses honesty, integrity, care for others and critical thinking. Many of us care very deeply indeed about the communities in which we live. We don't feel that it is necessary to believe in a God in order to behave in ways that show love and care towards others. We don't believe that people will only do the right thing when they are "forced" to do the right thing by the imposition of an external moral code.
Together and separately we support a great many groups that strive for equality and reason, the continuing separation of church and state and the fight for truth and fairness in all areas of society.
We are also strongly interested in environmental issues. We are active in the Adopt a Highway program and always looking for other ways to protect and improve the one world we have.
Fighting for the rights of the Freethinking North Carolinian
HHA is the leading voice for Humanism, Freethought, Atheism and Secularism in this part of North Carolina.
Our group aims to provide a strong positive collective presence that can respond to the negative pressures and outdated attitudes often put forward by the religious community.
Supporting those Leaving the Bonds of Religion Behind
Many of our group have turned away from the dogmatic and repressive religious communities that continue to devalue the individual, deny the rights of women, demonize sexuality and attack education and rational thinking.
A key role of our group is to provide a support network to show that Freethinkers are NOT ALONE.
We want you to be a part of this community, to share your ideas, your voice and your skills to make America and the world a saner, happier and more positive place for everyone.
